Ministries and Orders

Steps leading to the priesthood include:

Ministry of Reader (usually given in 1st year Theology) authorizing one to officially proclaim the Scriptures.
Ministry of Acolyte (usually given in 2nd Theology) authorizing one to officially serve at the altar.
Order of Diaconate (usually given in 3rd Theology) authorizing one to preach and perform certain sacramental functions (Baptism, blessings, etc.).
Order of Priesthood (usually given after completion of Theology) which is a sacrament conferring the right to celebrate Mass, hear Confessions and perform all other priestly duties.
