Ministries and Orders
Steps leading to the priesthood
include:
• Ministry of
Reader (usually given in 1st year Theology) authorizing one to officially
proclaim the Scriptures.
• Ministry of Acolyte (usually given in 2nd Theology) authorizing
one to officially serve at the altar.
• Order of Diaconate (usually given in 3rd Theology) authorizing
one to preach and perform certain sacramental functions (Baptism, blessings,
etc.).
• Order of Priesthood (usually given after completion of
Theology) which is a sacrament conferring the right to celebrate Mass,
hear Confessions and perform all other priestly duties.
