Two unexpected years of life

My friend, Barbara Scott, died of cancer October 3, 2008. She had been in remission for two years. The summer of 2006 she was considered terminal. The doctors said there was nothing more they could do for her except keep her comfortable. She looked awful and none of us thought she would make it until Thanksgiving. After Mass one morning a friend spoke to me about her and asked if we had asked Bishop Gallegos to intercede for her. Her suggestion was that we go to his grave, touch the crypt and ask his help. I relayed this to Barbara and she agreed to go.

The following Saturday I drove her down and we (finally) found the corner where the bishops are buried. Since Bishop Gallegos is way at the top, we had to find a way to get up there. They had a wide ladder with bars to hold onto and large platform steps. We got Barbara to the top and we both put our hands on the crypt and prayed for her healing.

She gradually began to feel better and by Christmas was almost back to her usual activities - even to working again at Loaves and Fishes. She and I had worked there since it opened and when she got so sick, we were sure she would never be back. They gave her a beautiful plaque thanking her for her service for so many years. We felt a little funny when she showed up to work again

She began taking communion to the sick again and went back to swimming – something she dearly loved to do. This went on until the summer of 2008. The doctors just could not believe it and referred to her as the miracle lady. Then she started downhill again and this time there was no reprieve. But she had gained two extra years that nobody thought she would have.
